Past, Present, and Future

Whenever we reach the close of another year, it is human nature to look back on our experiences, and often, our life changing decisions.

Today, I was reminded of the single event which labeled my generation. Like so many families around the world, war is a defining factor which affects those who follow.

I have two grandsons, both in their 20’s. I recall a day when the firstborn listened to my discussion: about our life as a military family. He interrupted to say, “I thought about joining the military, but I decided against it, since I don’t trust the President.”

How different life was during my generation! How many still remember the draft? Viet Nam was a military conflict, which altered our lifestyle…

Just like today, college students marched in protest. Flags were burned, and some young men ran, hoping to find peace in foreign countries.

But there were other young men who volunteered to serve. They gave their all, hoping to protect freedom; to preserve this place we call “Home.”

I pray the young people of our nation remember. Throughout our nation’s history, people have sacrificed for our way of life. And you because of them, dear children, we have the freedom to march, to protest, to vote, and to pray.

I pray you will remember!
