The Wheat Field

“I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” (John 4:35)

This morning, in Worship Service, I saw the wheat field Jesus spoke of. I was reminded that the parable was meant to instruct the disciples about the urgent need to go out and gather in the harvest of lost souls.

Since Biblical times, and before, the harvest fields have been subject to attack by swarms of locusts. This image comes close to what we see in the Spirit. While the Holy Spirit goes about the work of harvesting the field, the enemy also comes: “to steal, kill, and destroy” (John 10:10)

Today, while some work to bring in the harvest, others are called to intercede. Prayer warriors are instructed to go forth in battle; “to hold back the darkness”.
