I just returned home from a week-long vacation with my family. It was good to start each day with a family meal, and I shared the same pleasure during our evening meals.
But the experience taught me a valuable lesson. While others on board ship scattered to busy themselves with entertainment, I sat alone. I enjoyed the vast view of open water, and I thanked God for his creation.
When I picked up my pen and paper, other thoughts filled my senses. There was a strange sense of remorse; knowing somewhere across the world, on another oceans, men were fighting to protect freedom. I understood some men had already died in that mission; to protect and defend.
During prayer, I see those men and women who have answered the call to serve. I see their military families; wives and children wait on shore for those ships to sail into port. Parents watch the news and pray for the safe return of their children.
When I pray for the people of Ukraine, I see more than men at war. I see military widows and orphans. I see the elderly, the homeless, and those who are too poor eat three meals a day.
Yes, God wants me to see it all, and to remember that He has created me to serve His Call. Some of us are born to serve.
